A Beijing-based biotechnology company sent 70,000 sanitary napkins and pads to female medical staff fighting against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Wuhan, capital city of Central China's Hubei Province, on February 23.

More than 10,000 female medical workers in the city's six hospitals will receive the donation, including the Hubei Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital and the Hubei Provincial Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine.

The company's research and development department has come up with a new sanitary napkin targeting the female medical staff working for hours without time to answer a call of nature, according to Lu Yunjuan, president of the company.

The team has replaced the non-woven fabrics with long-staple cotton in the pad, which boasts a water absorption of up to 400 ml, which is twice or even three times other products' absorption capacity.

In addition, a static bacteria-inhibiting chip has been implanted to prevent infection of the reproductive system and alleviate the inconvenience of female medical workers during their menstrual periods.

Its cotton care pads are good for the females' health after their menstrual period or after using diapers during their long hours of work.

The company is busy preparing a second batch of donations.

Though the cost of its new product is about 10 times the ordinary one, Lu said they will continue to donate to meet the female medical workers' needs.
